Rayon fan case , CHIRIMEN, Grey , made in Japan
The chirimen is a Japanese fabric whose weave (mode of interweaving of warp and weft threads) is formed of small waves.
The term designates crepe fabrics in their generality, only the weaving weave of which they are composed differentiates them from each other.
Chirimen means in Japanese "crepe fabric". It appears in the Edo era, it is then a silk crepe fabric used for making kimonos. Scraps of fabric are also used to make small dolls or toys.
There are different varieties in Asia: in finely embossed cotton crepe whose feel is soft and silky but also a more particular crepe fabric made with silk or rayon whose weaving gives relief to small ripples in the fabric.
The weaving technique consists in twisting one thread around another in order to twist it. The twisted threads will then be used to make the fabric.
