Japanese kyusu teapot made in Japan
Tokoname production dates back to the Heian period (794-1185). At the time, the type of Tokoname-Yaki ceramic was used for purposes related to Buddhism.
When the practice of the tea ceremony began to spread during the Muromachi period (1338-1573),
a tray of related products such as tea bowls and flower vases for ikebana floral art have been produced.
During the Edo period (1600-1868), goods were used for everyday use in addition to tea goods. In the last years of this period, pipes, tiles, or even toilets were produced.
This wide range of products is the result of the flexibility of the tokoname artist, producing goods to meet the needs of people in every point of history.
