A zabuton (座 布 団) is a Japanese cushion for sitting on. The literal translation is "futon-seat". The zabuton is the everyday cushion found in Japanese homes, and used for eating, watching television, reading under the kotatsu and other daily activities in the washitsu, placed on a tatami mat. An ordinary zabuton is a square or round 50 to 70 cm per side, and several centimeters thick when new.
